Edward George Wright
WWII veteran
Edward George Wright, 88, of Murrysville, formerly of Penn Hills and Plum, died May 1, 2008.
He was the owner of the Verona Road Dairy Queen for 11 years. Mr. Wright was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran. He was an avid golfer and a member of Holiday Park United Methodist Church and the Penn Hills Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lavelle Fisher Wright; children, Larry Edward (Anna Marie) Wright, William Allen (Dale Ann) Wright and Elizabeth (Steve) Ezar; a brother, James Wright Jr.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Charlie, parents, James Sr. and Sarah Delancey Wright; sisters, Grace Skowronski and Mary Beckett-Gooseman; and a brother, Paul Wright.

Louise Horner

Louise E. Steuernagel Horner, 91, of Plum Borough died April 30, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Stanley Horner.Surviving are her daughters, Janet (Irwin) Ludin of Kent, Wash., Gretchen Gailott of Plum and Elaine (Bill) Holmes of Plum; a sister, Emma Chew of Plum; grandchildren, Jeff, Melissa, Mike, Lee and Bill; two great-grandchildren, Ada and Isabella; and nieces and nephews.
A service was in Kerr Presbyterian Church, Verona.
Arrangements were handled by English Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Oakmont.
Ann Hershey
Longtime teacher
Ann Wadsworth Hershey, 93, died April 21, 2008.
A Slippery Rock University graduate, she was a first-grade teacher for many years in Penn Hills School District. Mrs. Hershey was an active member of Unity Community Church.
Her husband, Charles Hershey, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Margaret (Charles) Bruneck of Plum, Joan (David) Broste of Denver, Carolyn (John) Redfield of Houston and Robert (Jill) Hershey of Murrysville; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on May 31, at Unity Community Church, Plum Borough.
Violet L. Ward Conti
Plum resident
Violet L. Ward Conti, 87, of Plum Borough died May 3, 2008, in Concordia Ridgewood Place.
Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Braddock, she was the daughter of Joseph and Nettie Switzer Christian. She was self-employed in the restaurant business. Mrs. Conti was a gardener and antique collector. During World War II, she inspected aircraft. She was a past member of Unity Community Church, Plum Borough.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Conti; a grandson; brothers, David and Percy Christian; and sisters, Mildred Christian and Vera Steinmetz.
Visitation was at Stephen P. Dolence Jr. Funeral Home, Plum. Interment was at Plum Creek Cemetery. Surviving are her children, David (Eileen) Ward of Fort Worth, Texas, John (Janet) Ward of North Huntingdon, James Conti of Plum Borough and Sherry (Richard) Kudranski of Plum; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Kiser and Louise Christian.
Albert Checcio Sr.
WWII veteran
Albert Checcio Sr., 85, of Plum Borough, died April 30, 2008.
Mr. Checcio was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. An avid gardener, he loved the outdoors and was a sports enthusiast.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Castleforte Checcio; his children, Linda (Jim) Christ, Albert (Susan) Checcio Jr. and Jeff (Rodlyn) Checcio; grandchildren, Julie, Ian, Courtney, Colin, Addison and Alexander; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rocco Checcio.
A brother, William Checcio, preceded him in death.

Josephine Macey

Josephine Macey, 85, of Plum Borough died May 4, 2008, at Briarcliff Pavilion, North Huntingdon.
Born Jan. 5, 1923, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Giacomo and Josephine Pellegrino Brandi. She was best known for time spent with her family and Sunday dinners.
She is survived by her husband, John P. Macey; daughters, Mary Ann (John) Neubert and Janet (Kenneth) Amoroso, all of North Huntingdon; four grandchildren, George and John Ondovcik, Kenneth Amoroso and Kara Schopp; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and nine sisters.
Visitation was at James W. Shirley Funeral Home, North Huntingdon. Mass was in Church of the Immaculate Conception, Irwin. Interment was at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Elfriede Kanizai

Elfriede H. Kanizai, 80, of Verona died April 28, 2008, at Life Care, Wilkinsburg.
Born July 9, 1927, in East Germany, she was employed for 16 years at Green Oaks Country Club. Mrs. Kanizai was a member of CFU No. 602 in Monroeville.
Her husband, George Kanizai, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Stephan and his wife, Cheryl of Plum Borough and Martin Kanizai of Las Vegas; and a grandchild, Stacy Kanizai.
Friends and family were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home Cremation & Alternative Services, Oakmont. Interment was at Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Cheswick.
