Local students achieve academic success
Emily Erhard, a 2004 Plum High School graduate, has graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience.
Erhard, the daughter of Bob and Kathy Erhard of Plum, graduated with a minor in chemistry and a certificate of conceptual foundations of medicine.
She also is a member of the Eta Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon.
Mason
Drew Mason, a 2007 Plum High School graduate, has received the President's Freshman Award from Pennsylvania State University.
Mason is a freshman at the University Park campus majoring in mining engineering.
He has received an internship with Consol Energy for the summer at the Bailey Mine in Washington County.
Flaherty
The Westminster College Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band presented their annual Celebrate the Seniors concert earlier this month.
Kerry Flaherty, a daughter of Jay and Karen Flaherty, plays trumpet in the Symphonic Band.
She is a senior Spanish major and a graduate of Plum High School.
Graduating seniors also were honored during their last performance with the bands at Westminster.
Stitt
Leanna Stitt was one of 16 Westminster College seniors who have completed the college honors program to be recognized at the annual honors convocation last month.
The daughter of Karen Smith and James Stitt of Plum, Stitt is a senior English and sociology major. She is a graduate of Plum High School.
The Westminster Honors Program provides an opportunity for students to pursue projects beyond the regular course work.
A minimum grade point average of 3.5 or better for all courses taken and in the major is required for admission into the program.
Mihalko
Amie Mihalko of Plum is one of six Duquesne University law students who reached the semifinals at the National Trial Competition regional championship in Philadel-phia.
The competition included law schools such as Penn, Villanova, Dickinson and Rutgers.
Duquesne's two teams advanced to the semifinals of the twin-bracketed tournament, where they defeated Dickinson and Villanova, respectively, before losing to host school Temple in the finals.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that teams from Duquesne have made the finals or semifinals.
